Glow 2 – Road Trip

Experimenting with a double exposure, capturing the always glowing lights in Reno.

I just came back from a road trip to Nevada. I had to find a work truck, and it’s usually easier to get a good deal there. Especially if you’re willing to do some research, and go to the middle of nowhere to pick up a vehicle. That’s exactly what I did. My daughter and I naturally took the time to watch some wild horses play, and explore the desert as well.

On the way back we spent a night in Reno, at our favorite dog friendly hotel. The number of hotels you can stay at, are slightly limited, if you have a dog with you. Naturally I had a dog with me. If I go, my germans shepherd goes. My daughter like to sleep in, I’m an early riser. While she was sleeping I read some local newspapers (and experimented with my camera, see the first photo.) I learned something new about Nevada that I did not know;

According to the 2010 census, Nevada is the third most urban state, behind only California and New York. Few people live in its rural expanses.

Of course I knew that a lot of people live in Las Vegas and Reno, but when I think of Nevada it’s always the endless deserts, sage brush, mountains, ranches, wild horses, and maybe some ghost towns. That Nevada is the third most urban state came as a surprise.

Above, wild mustang at the Virginia Range. Below, mustang I worked with a couple years ago, also from the Virginia Range. Could be related?!

We had a magical visit, thoroughly enjoying the fall colors. The mornings were cold, and crisp, the days were in the 60’s and just perfect. Nevada is only 3,5 hours away, but it feels like a different universe. I like going there. I have spent a lot of time in the state, working at a couple different ranches, doing some photography, and just exploring. Nevada is, just like California, a dream for photographers.

I hope you’re having an awesome weekend. I’m going to spend the rest of it mending some fences, and planting some fruit trees.

Love,

Ms Zen
