I wish that I’d had somebody telling me ten years ago that I could choose happiness. That I should choose happiness every day. That living a more mindful life contributes to balancing out the negative stress, that most of us are exposed to one way or another.
This Thanksgiving I had to make the most out of celebrating it without my daughter, that normally lives with me 100%. When I said yes to letting her spend Thanksgiving with her dad I honestly didn’t think that it actually was going to happen. I made the choice to be happy for her, that she gets to see that part of her family (2700 miles away…) I had to convince myself to make that choice every morning since she left, and I am happy. Because I choose to be. To occupy myself I’ve had plenty of pleasant distractions. One of them being spending time in incredible nature.
The photos in today’s post is from Castle Lake Trail, one of the trails that I explored. (I did this hike the day after Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving Day hike will be another post.)
I’d been wanting to explore this trail for a few months now. Castle Lake is located in Siskiyou (CA.) It’s a glacier lake in the Trinity Mountains. The surrounding wilderness with various mountain tops made for an incredible scenery. Part of the trail was covered with snow, I love snow!
A few years ago I would of probably stayed at home in a pity party for myself, for not being able to spend Thanksgiving with my daughter. I am so happy that that is not the way my life is anymore. I can’t really say when the transformation happened. I believe that peace of mind comes peace by piece. Right now I’m just so incredibly happy and thankful for all the good things in my life. My family by choice, my friends, my sweet dog, my good health, the amazing nature that surrounds me, and the gift of waking up happy every morning.
On the + side, because I did eat a lot of yummy food, is that all the hikes refueled my energy levels. I’m going back to work today feeling strong, on top of my game.
Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.

I hope YOU had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones. What are you thankful for this year?
I saved my favorite picture from this hike to last, the view from the ridge above Castle Lake, overlooking the lake, and a snow-covered Mt Shasta. It reminds me about my choice to live a mindful, happy life, no matter the circumstances. Because both you and I can choose to react to things that happens to us, in a way that contributes to our happiness. Make that choice!
